When we look at map of the world, we see different countries; some are small, some are large, some are huge. But, there is a country in the world that is expanded over a very very small area, as small as only “11.3” acres. In fact it is so small that its size can be compared to that of a big house. The name of the country is ‘The Republic of Molossia’ and is headed by His Excellency Admiral Kevin Baugh. The Molossia is derived from Spanish word ‘morro’ meaning ‘a small rock or hill’. It is the smallest country in the world and has its own flag too.
Government and constitution
The Republic of Molossia is governed by a Constitution, which empowers a National Assembly to serve as the Legislative Branch. A President is there to serve as the Executive Branch and a Supreme Court which is responsible for judicial matters. At present, a state of martial law exists in the country hence, the president exercises absolute control over Molossia.
Historical perspective
Molossia is a sovereign independent micronation and was founded on 26th May 1977. In 2006, the country was invaded by a group called ‘Mustachians’ and successfully defeated them. In April 2010, Molossia was again invaded by a cult called ‘Kickassians’. The country regained sovereignty after Kickassian dictator was overthrown. Molossians had been officially at war against East Germany from 1983 till the end of East Germany in 1990.
Climate and geography
Geographically, Molossia is located in and completely surrounded by American state Nevada. The climate is mostly dry and mild with temperature ranging between 0o C and 35o C. Most of the terrain is arid and sparsely vegetated. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Molossian Home Territory is just 45 km from beautiful Lake Tahoe, and minutes away from Virginia City. The nearest major airport and bus services are also about 45 km away in Reno, Nevada.
The Molossian Navy
Amazingly, amidst the desert of Nevada, Molossia has established a naval force called ‘The Molossian Navy’ and has procured three boats too. In addition, a naval institution called ‘The Molossian Naval Academy’ has also been established to train the Naval manpower.
Cultural facts
The official languages of Molossia are English and ‘Esperanto’ which is a language developed to help communicate people from different origins. There are around 200,000 poles in different countries of world called Peace Poles; and Molossians have also erected around 8 Peace Poles in their territory to join hands with peace campaign. Each Peace Pole proclaims the prayer ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ in different languages of the world. The overall landscape is characterized by fast gusty winds and a tower has been built in the territory called ‘The Wind Tower’, as a symbol of a nation situated in remarkably windy area. There is a park called Norton Park named after Emperor Norton, who is claimed to have strong impact on the history of Molossia. To explore the world around, three kids of Molossia have founded a small expeditious organization called ‘Molossia Rangers’; who keep on launching new exploratory expeditions. Amazingly, Molossians have even formulated their own measurement system known as ‘Kokintz Measurement System’ which is claimed to be based on easy to grasp ideas. The national musical instrument of Molossia is ‘Molossa Phone’ which is specially used to play national anthem of Molossia.
The Molossian media
This small nation has great aspirations in matching pace with fast growing world. Molossians are taking crucial steps to built infrastructure of their national media. Therefore, a monthly national newsletter is regularly published for Molossian people called ‘The Mustang’. On the same lines, a dedicated radio has been established called ‘The Molossia Radio’ transmitting specially for Molossians as an attempt to increase world over awareness about tiny nation.
Trade and economy
The basic unit of currency is ‘Valora’. Presently, 1 Valora is equal to 0.75 US dollars. The country is striving for improving its economy by focusing on trade and export business too. For this purpose, a dedicated organization called ‘The Molossian Trading Company’ has been founded for enhancing the export of official merchandise of Molossia. To pursue sound monetary and financial policies a national bank called ‘Bank of Molossia’ has been established. A dedicated postal service called ‘Molossia Post’ has also been established. Many products are being manufactured and offered to the world as export items. For example, a special soap has been launched by Molossians called ‘The Supremo Soap’; which is claimed to cleanse, refresh and reinvigorate the skin. Other products include men’s/ women’s shirts, outerwears, sweatshirts and drink wares (e.g. coffee cups) etc.
Tourism
The government of Molossia encourages the tourists from the whole world to visit their little kingdom of peace.
